Five Fun Activities to Enjoy in the San Gabriel Mountains

The San Gabriel Mountain's offer a great deal of activities for the active person or for the family to enjoy during the weekend. There are five activities that can be enjoyed in this area.

San Gabriel offers bicycling, hiking, panning for gold, fishing, and picnicking with the family. Check the recreational office for specific locations for these activities, although all of them can be practiced in some or most areas around the San Gabriel Mountains. Please be prepared for wildlife and for emergency's if you get lost.

There are endless bicycling trails where one can ride and ride for miles on end. Travel through forests, valleys, and rocky terrain while observing beautiful streams and brooks flowing through the mountains.

For serious hikers' there are long hiking trails that go on for hours; travel through wilderness, mountains, caves, and brush for an adventure of a lifetime. Test your endurance and see if you can make a long day hike through the mountainous trails.

It is not uncommon to find people panning for gold in the streams and brooks of the San Gabriel Mountains. This is also an activity you can engage in, out here in the mountains. You never know, you might strike it rich.

There are beautiful deep freshwater ponds filled up by ice cold water that comes down from the mountains. One can find rainbow trout living in these ponds; hook up a triple barbed hook filled with red salmon eggs and catch some delicious wild trout.

And lastly don't forget the beautiful scenic vistas and wilderness areas one can enjoy while having a sumptuous feast with the family. It's a great Kodak moment and something the family can remember for a long time.

Don't forget to take some precautions before traveling into the San Gabriel Mountains. Be sure to bring a survival knife and watch for rattle snakes; they are abundant in the San Gabriel Mountains. It is also wise to wear long clothing and long boots to protect you from rocks and wildlife. Also bring all necessary survival gear and make sure that you have a cell phone fully charged and that a loved one knows that you are hiking in that region. Talk to a park ranger before you embark on your journey for more information.

One can enjoy a great deal of fun activities in the San Gabriel Mountains be sure to visit them sometime soon. Enjoy your journey, but please be careful as San Gabriel is a wild area, so take all necessary precautions. And please be courteous and respectful of nature, make sure to throw away all trash in bags, and don't pollute the scenery or terrain with graffiti. Have a good trip.
