If you're a local or a tourist you'll find a lot of great things to see and do in Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach has some of the greatest beaches on the West Coast. The three things to see and do are:
- 1. Treasure Island Park
- 2. Aliso Creek Beach
- 3. The Montage Hotel
Treasure Island Park
Treasure Island Park is a hidden gem in Laguna Beach. After parking in the southern structure or at the Montage Hotel you'll be swept away by breathtaking views, giant ocean rocks, and the sounds of ocean waves as they crash against the surf. Walking about the boardwalk -near the Montage Hotel- you'll see beautiful aloes, agaves, and other plants. It is reminiscent of an island hotel like you would see at the Hilton Waikoloa Village in Hawaii, on the Big Island. The beach is smaller and more secluded due to the large rocks that insulate it from the area.
History of Treasure Island
The park was originally owned by Hubbard Goff when he first homesteaded the property in the late 1800s. Legend has it that a French pirate named captain Happolyte Bouchard buried his treasure there back in 1818. The park did not get its name until it was used as the set for the movie Treasure Island in 1934; which is based on the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Where to Park
You may spend a day at the park; you will park in the southern area and go down into the parking structure. It's about $ 1.50 per hour, with a 3 hour limit. There are about 50 spots here and on the weekend they fill up fast. You may also park at the Aliso Creek Beach and walk to the Treasure Island Park in the west. There is a walkway that goes up into the Treasure Island Park walkway near the Montage Hotel.
Aliso Creek Beach
In the east is Aliso Creek Beach that you can go to. It has all your sporting events that you might want to do. It's your typical spacious beach where you can participate in many different activities. Ocean activities here include:
- swimming
- skimboarding
- surfing
- skin diving
- paddle boarding
There is no fishing allowed on this beach. You can buy food and beverages at a concession building with restrooms nearby.
The Montage Hotel
Spend some nights at the Montage Hotel. This is a world class luxury hotel with some of the most beautiful views of ocean, cliffs, and waters. The Montage is a 262-room hotel with a 20,000-square-foot spa, a luxury restaurant, with 14 condominiums and 14 custom estate lots. They have a great restaurant called the Loft. If you can't get any parking in the southern structure eat at the Loft, and you can walk along the boardwalk for about an hour.
