Time Tested Natural Remedies

I'm going to show you how to prevent and cure your cold by using time tested proven remedies that come only from nature and good old folk wisdom. The more methods you use the faster you will get better as they work together to bring you back to health. They are listed in the order of importance.

From chicken soup to orange juice, here are the ten time tested proven cures to help you beat your cold during the winter season.

Remedy 1: Chicken Soup

There's nothing like good old fashion chicken soup to help cure a cold; chicken soup is full of minerals and nutrients- organic is the best choice. You can buy organic chicken soup in a can from iherb.com.That's a convenient alternative if you are unable to cook your own, or buy it at a restaurant.

Chicken soup is very effective in relieving the worst of the symptoms and in shortening the duration of a cold (Balch, J. & Balch, P. 2000).

Remedy 2: Vitamins C and A

The second best home remedy would be freshly squeezed orange juice. Try to fertilize your orange trees with organic fertilizer, as that is the best for your health. Or you can take Vitamin C at 5-20,000 mg daily. Get it from a natural source and avoid the ascorbic acid variety; the best is derived from rose hips. Vitamin C is good for cold viruses, for kids use the buffered vitamin C (Balch, J. & Balch, P. 2000).

Another vitamin to be included would be Vitamin A. Vitamin A is critical during a cold. It is recommended to take 15, 000 IU daily, however pregnant women should not exceed 10,000 IU. Vitamin A heals the inflamed mucous membranes and builds up the immune system (Balch, J. & Balch, P. 2000).

Remedy 3: Herbal Supplements

The third method is with herbal supplements. Herbs like an alcohol-free Echinacea are great for boosting the immune system. This helps stimulate your body to undergo its own self healing process. You can also take Echinacea as a hot tea. It's the first thing I do when I have any symptoms of a cold coming on.

Further excellent herbal supplements include papaya, raw ginger, and cat's claw. For a cold you can use green papaya extract; you can buy it as a chewable supplement. Raw ginger boiled into a tea is also good. Cat's claw supplements will also work wonders (Trudeau 2004).

Remedy 4: Zinc

The fourth method is with zinc. You can take it as a zinc lozenge; the dosage is 1 15-mg lozenge every 3 waking hours for 3 days. It says not to exceed 100 mg per day. Zinc also strengthens the immune system. Note: Don't take lozenges that have citric acid, sorbitol, or mannitol (Balch, J. & Balch, P. 2000).

Remedy 5: Colloidal Silver

The fifth method is colloidal silver. Silver has a historical use as an anti-virus and anti-plague. People of royal lineage were known to get a blue pigment in their skin due to the use of silver table ware. They called them "Blue bloods," this was because they had excessive silver in their bodies.

A by-product of this was an enhanced immunity to viruses, and plagues. The nobility would survive plagues due to the large amount of silver in their immune system. Not to worry you won't turn blue with quality colloidal silver. Colloidal silver possesses natural antibiotic and antiviral properties (Balch, J. & Balch, P. 2000).

Remedy 6: Eliminate Unhealthy Foods from Diet

The sixth suggestion is to eliminate or reduce the intake of certain foods in your diet. You should lower your sugar intake or eliminate it while you are sick. Sugar lowers the immune system and makes you constipated. You want to have a free flowing bowel, so that you can flush out all the toxins that are making you sick. And this goes for milk (regular milk is full of hormones and other additives) as well; get off milk while you're sick. It contributes to mucus and when you're sick, you want to cut down on that.

Remedy 7: Have A Positive State of Mind

The seventh suggestion is to have a good attitude, be relaxed and focused on getting better. I'm a big believer in the power of the mind to heal the body. Focus on healing and on being better rather than on being sick and miserable.

Emile Coue, a French pharmacist and psychologist coined the phrase, "Day by day I'm getting better in every way." Feel free to use that it has worked wonders for many people. You will move towards your mental goal of health and immunity the more you focus on health (Anonymous 2013).

Remedy 8: Stay Moderately Active

The eighth suggestion is to be active. Staying in bed will exacerbate your cold. You may move around inside your home as long as you are well insulated and warm. The motion of the body will loosen up mucus and fluids. Some moderate exercise indoors maybe beneficial as well (Balch, J. & Balch, P. 2000).

If it is sunny outside or if you have sun coming through the window -avoid 11am-2pm to prevent sunburn- sit in it, it is beneficial to healing your cold (Trudeau 2004).

Remedy 9: Use Essential Oils

Ninth there are herbs and essential oils that will clear congestion in your body. Eucalyptus oil relieves congestion; you use 5 drops in a hot bath or 6 drops in 2 cups of boiling water and inhale the steam. The red clover will flush out toxins in the lymphatic system that can cause congestion and inflammation (Balch, J. & Balch, P. 2000).

Remedy 10: Eat Edible Mushrooms

The tenth suggestion is to eat mushrooms that have immense immune stimulating benefits. The mushrooms are: maitake, shitake, and reishi. You can eat them as a soup, or individually in a salad or with noodles.

All of the supplements mentioned in this article are available at

Medicines to Relieve Flu, Fatigue and Hangovers

Herbs are the purest and safest way to build health, build immunity, and create longevity. They are the closest to nature. As we are nature's creations the closer to nature we are the healthier we will be.

Medical science is great for emergency medicine, and rescue during accidents; but they can't beat nature in its pure form. Try herbs as an alternative to over the counter medicine or prescription drugs. Herbs generally have no side effects and they build your health internally. The following are three herbs that I have found effective in treating cold and flu, vitamin B deficiency, and fatigue.

Echinacea is an excellent remedy for building the immune system in people that are prone to colds, and flus. You can take it during the cold season, as an immune system boost or you can also take it, after contracting the cold. It will keep your immune system strong, which if it is working for you, you will get over the cold faster or prevent yourself from getting one in the first place. Echinacea builds the immune system, which is much better than just treating symptoms like most OTC's or prescription drugs. Echinacea is best taken as a tea. Echinacea is a complete immune system builder.

Research by J. P. Balch (1995) revealed that Echinacea:

Fights inflammation and bacterial and viral infection. Stimulates certain white blood cells. Good for the immune system and the lymphatic system. Useful for allergies, colic, colds, flu, and other infectious illnesses. Also helpful for snakebite.

Another herb I use quite often is chamomile. If you drink a lot of alcohol one night and you have a really bad hang over, you might consider chamomile instead of coffee. It soothes your nerves and gives you vitamin B, which is usually depleted by alcohol consumption. Chamomile will give you a nice mellow feeling and slowly make you feel better from a hangover. The best source is organic and in tea form.

Research by J. P. Balch (1995) revealed that chamomile consists of choline, vitamins b1, b3, and C.

The third I herb I use on occasion is ginseng. If you want a vitalizing, healthy building boost, you can try ginseng as an herb, a tea, or in capsule form. Siberian ginseng tea is one of the best forms. It is very strong and you might want to add some organic brown sugar or honey to make it taste better. It will rejuvenate you as well as build your immune system. It is a highly praised herb in China for bringing longevity. You can try it to raise your energy levels without the jitters like you would with coffee or let's say prescription medicines like amphetamines. Most of us coffee drinkers wear out our adrenal glands. This herb will strengthen them.

Research by J.P. Balch (1995) revealed that ginseng strengthens the adrenal glands and is good for a lack of energy, and stress.

So if you would like to actually get better from colds instead of just relieving congestion, and you'd like to replenish vitamin B from alcohol consumption, and recover from fatigue; you may find these three herbs, extremely beneficial. Try my link for I-herb where you can buy most of these herbs in capsule, or tea form at a significant discount. Use code TEP158 for a $5.00 discount.

3 Things to Do in Laguna Beach, California

This is basic guide on some fun locations to see in Laguna Beach: they include Treasure Island Park, Aliso Creek Beach, and The Montage Hotel.

If you're a local or a tourist you'll find a lot of great things to see and do in Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach has some of the greatest beaches on the West Coast. The three things to see and do are:

  • 1. Treasure Island Park
  • 2. Aliso Creek Beach
  • 3. The Montage Hotel

Treasure Island Park

Treasure Island Park is a hidden gem in Laguna Beach. After parking in the southern structure or at the Montage Hotel you'll be swept away by breathtaking views, giant ocean rocks, and the sounds of ocean waves as they crash against the surf. Walking about the boardwalk -near the Montage Hotel- you'll see beautiful aloes, agaves, and other plants. It is reminiscent of an island hotel like you would see at the Hilton Waikoloa Village in Hawaii, on the Big Island. The beach is smaller and more secluded due to the large rocks that insulate it from the area.

History of Treasure Island

The park was originally owned by Hubbard Goff when he first homesteaded the property in the late 1800s. Legend has it that a French pirate named captain Happolyte Bouchard buried his treasure there back in 1818. The park did not get its name until it was used as the set for the movie Treasure Island in 1934; which is based on the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Where to Park

You may spend a day at the park; you will park in the southern area and go down into the parking structure. It's about $ 1.50 per hour, with a 3 hour limit. There are about 50 spots here and on the weekend they fill up fast. You may also park at the Aliso Creek Beach and walk to the Treasure Island Park in the west. There is a walkway that goes up into the Treasure Island Park walkway near the Montage Hotel.

Aliso Creek Beach

In the east is Aliso Creek Beach that you can go to. It has all your sporting events that you might want to do. It's your typical spacious beach where you can participate in many different activities. Ocean activities here include:

  • swimming
  • skimboarding
  • surfing
  • skin diving
  • paddle boarding

There is no fishing allowed on this beach. You can buy food and beverages at a concession building with restrooms nearby.

The Montage Hotel

Spend some nights at the Montage Hotel. This is a world class luxury hotel with some of the most beautiful views of ocean, cliffs, and waters. The Montage is a 262-room hotel with a 20,000-square-foot spa, a luxury restaurant, with 14 condominiums and 14 custom estate lots. They have a great restaurant called the Loft. If you can't get any parking in the southern structure eat at the Loft, and you can walk along the boardwalk for about an hour.

Top 10 Alien Movies of All Time

Alien films have fascinated us since H.G. Wells "War of the Worlds." With their alien landscapes, close encounters, and twilight zone appeal they are sure to keep you awake into the night. The following are ten of the greatest alien movies of all time. These films reflect three different categories one is alleged accounts of ufo encounters, the other is sci-fi thriller suspense, and the third are more message films.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) was written originally by Harry Bates and adapted as a screenplay by Edmund H. North. The film was directed by Robert Wise. In this film the alien shows their power by freezing all the machine powered gadgetry on the earth. The logic follows that our destructive nature will upset the rest of the galaxy. Thus we must restrain for the good of our planet, otherwise we will be eliminated by the alien man's superior technology.

War of the Worlds (1953) was written as a novel by H.G. Wells. It was adapted into a screenplay by Barre Lyndon. The movie was directed by Byron Haskin. This was the epic sci-fi fantasy of aliens invading the earth. The eerie lighting and hovering UFOs give the movie quite an ambiance. Watch humans try to fight back the alien menace in this classic sci-fi film.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) was written by Steven Spielberg and Jerry Belson. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg. Close Encounters is an alien picture loosely based upon actual alien and government interaction. In this movie we have a secret project that is underway near a large mountainous rock formation. The government has their own private landing pad where numerous spaceships will land through an exchange program of pilots, citizens, and e.t.s.

Alien (1979) was written as a story by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Alien was adapted to a screenplay by Dan O'Bannon. Alien was directed by Ridley Scott. This is a sci-fi action, thriller, suspense film at its finest. See a powerful heroine rise to the occasion to battle this formidable beast. The characters more or less try to survive being hunted down by a man-eating, alien beast.

E.T. or The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) was written by Melissa Mathison and directed by Steven Spielberg. This film depicts the otherwise gray alien, with almost human eyes. This shows the e.t. as a benevolent being more or less trying to survive, amidst a cold government that only wants to control the e.t. This is a film geared more towards children, but with a strong message of alien interaction, possibly an alien connection to our origins. See the poster for this film, it resembles Michelangelo's: The Creation of Adam.

Predator (1987) was written by Jim Thomas and John Thomas. This film was directed by John McTiernan. Predator depicts a technologically advanced reptilian alien that enjoys eating people. This is an excellent adventure and suspense film. Watch Arnold Schwarzenegger battle it out with this reptilian hunter in the jungle.

They Live (1988) originally written as short story by Ray Nelson and adapted into the screenplay by John Carpenter. This film was directed by John Carpenter. It depicts a world pulled over our eyes. In this world we are living in a dream world that our alien masters have put over on us. The aliens resemble a humorous, walking ghoul that talk into wrist watches. The character in this film starts to see the true reality with special glasses. They are like x-ray glasses from a comic book, except they show the reality of the messages on billboards, magazines, and even money. This movie has a lot of humor and you will definitely find it very entertaining.

Communion (1989) is a movie based upon the book Communion, written by Whitley Strieber. The screenplay for this movie was also written by Whitley Strieber. It is an excellent account of a man coming to terms with his visitation by alien beings. It is a mixture of reality coming apart at the seams, strangeness, and bizarre humor; not to mention a great performance by Christopher Walken.

Fire in the sky (1993) as a screenplay was written by Tracy Torme. The film is an adaptation of a book by the same name by Travis Walton. This story was Travis's actual account of alien abduction. This movie is more of a thriller and shows the darker side of alien abduction. This movie is about a lumberjack that unfortunately, lets his curiosity get the best of him. He is taken for a period of days, in which he is stripped down naked, and deprived of food and water. The rest of the movie shows him trying to prove that he really was taken by little alien beings. He has a hard time convincing most people, and even goes in for a lie detector test.

The Arrival (1996) was written and directed by David Twohy. It is a movie that shows a scenario of infiltration. In this picture Charlie Sheen becomes aware of a conspiracy of aliens gradually changing the environment through global warming to make the earth more compatible with their biology. It is a great conspiratorial film.

Poem: Clear Water Brooks of San Gabriel

C L E A R  W A T E R  B R O O K S  O F  S A N  G A B R I E L

Brooks and streams; cold, clear, crisp waters filled with trout.

Small little fish hooked with barbs like a sharp anchor of a ship.

They glisten with a metallic luster.

Blood red salmon eggs deposited as thy tasty treat.

The river runs through here...

Little fish hide in deep ponds.

Serene ponds alive with cold water fish.

Rattle snakes scurry past us.

Rattles warn us of impending doom, watch out!

We walk through the trails in strong waterproof boots.

We were ready for anything -that day.

Poem: Daylight in the Desert

D A Y L I G H T I N T H E D E S E R T

Large saguaro cactuses greet the new day;
sharp and proud he appears resilient in
the desert lands.

Light drizzle covers the cacti land, ensuring a constant supply of water to these large beings.

Lightning and thunder appear in the sky and strikes the land.

Saguaro cactuses bulge up high and scatter throughout the landscape.

Lightning erupts and strikes the ground in zigzag sparks like magic out of a wizard’s hands.

Drizzle and rains cover our journey through the desert.

Desert plants reach out all around us, along with the beautiful saguaros and yellowish choyas, succulent cacti plants.

The scent of the desert covers our existence we are alive and vivified by her
presence….
